Confused!
Hi, this is Tony Isaacs. This is an interesting question. I have run into this question a lot because of my martial arts background. The answer is Yes, it's ok to participate in the physical side of yoga. This is great exercise. Stretching and proper breathing is one of the best possible ways to stay physically strong. The answer to the meditation side is No. This type of meditation deals with emptying yourself without clear direction or knowing what you should fill your mind with. It allows the possibility of the wrong things to come into your life. (World philosophies, spiritualism, demoniac influences, etc.)
1. We are encouraged never to turn our mind off:
"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.." 2 Cor. 10:5
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Phil. 4:8
2. We are to fill ourselves as Christian with the Spirit of God:
"Instead, be filled with the Spirit." Ephesian 5:18
So enjoy your yoga, but when it comes to the meditation time of your workout, think higher!
