Why do so many families suffer with so much addiction, pain and sadness?

Hey Nikki,

Thanks for your question. I am thinking that you have suffered some lose and tragedy in your life. God bless you. I would like to go to God’s Word to shed some light on your question.

I am reminded of Matthew 5:44-45;
But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
As I was jogging this morning it began to rain. I was trying to run under trees to avoid much of the rain, but to no avail. I was still getting rained on. Nothing I could do would prevent me from getting wet, short of going back inside.

Then I saw a rainbow, near the end of my run and was reminded of the promises of God. Romans 8:31-39

What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Difficulties as well as days of prosperity will come to all. It is how we deal with those difficulties that will determine our outlook. Blessings are given without respect to merit or deserving. If they were none of us would receive them.

Pain, sadness and suffering respect no one and all are susceptible to their fury. If we will take that pain and leave it with Jesus, He can give us the strength needed to make it. For only through Him can we gain the power to overcome those hurts and hang ups that can beset us.

Look at 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Nikki, I hope this helps you. Let me also tell you that we have some ministries here at Christ Fellowship that may also help you in dealing with this question. Our Grief Ministry, which meets during the week as well as our Celebrate Recovery Worship Service. For more information please visit www.cffamily.org

God bless you.
Sammy
