If I'm a Christian, and I've confessed my sins, why do I keep geting reminded of them over and over, still feeling guilty?

As Christians we know that God loved us so much that He sent His own Son to die on the cross and take the punishment for all of our sins. (John 3:16) We also know when we've asked for forgiveness, we are forgiven because that is what God promises in His Word. It seems that it is often harder to forgive ourselves for our own failures, especially when we have one who wants us to stand accused. (Revelation 12:10) When I struggle with anything that is contrary to God's Word, the only way to combat those feelings is with God's Word itself. (Memorizing Scripture) 1 John 1:9 "if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." Psalm 103:12 "as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us." Psalm 85:2 "You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins."
