Is God an environmentalist? Does He care and want us to protect the Earth and its natural resources?

Hey Tracy this is John Lee. Great question! I’m not sure if you can call God an environmentalist but one thing I know for sure is that He does care about the environment. In Genesis 1:11-13 is the account where God created the plants and vegetation, after God was finished “He saw that it was good.” In verses 20 through 24 God creates all the animals, and once again, God saw that it was good. Now on the sixth day God created man, not only did He create man but He also gave him responsibility. Let’s read about it:

28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.

In Genesis Chapter 2, God places Adam in the garden to take care of it. In verse 19 Adam gets the responsibility of naming all of the animals; even Eve was created to help Adam with the responsibility of caring for the land and the animals. I personally think, based on what we have read in God’s Word, that we have a great responsibility to manage the resources that God has given us, it is totally irresponsible to waste or destroy the resources that God has given to us. After Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden and were removed, they still had to work and care for the land, even though it was going to be much more difficult.

What I am most thankful for is that in the end God is going to make our planet right again. Read it for yourself in Revelation 21:1-4. I hope it all make sense to you.
